Coos County Master Gardeners Presents A Special Garden Seminar
Saturday, March 30, 2013

Are you a gardening enthusiast? Can’t wait to get out into the garden this spring? Join us for gardening inspiration! The 12th annual garden seminar, “Fertilize Your Mind: The Dirt on Backyard Gardening” will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Fertilize Your Mind is a day-long seminar offering hands-on classes for avid gardeners. Whether you are an experienced or novice gardener, new to the area, or have lived here for decades, you can find plenty of ideas to make gardening easier, inspiring, and more successful.

Featured at this year’s event are nine experienced and practical speakers who will present classes covering a wide range of horticultural subjects. The keynote speaker will be James Cassidy - Soil Science instructor at OSU. Entertaining and well-informed, he will discuss one of the most important basics of gardening: Soils: What it’s ALL about! In addition to joining us for the enlightening talk given by the keynote speaker, participants will be able to select three informational courses, one from each of the three class sessions. Topics include Coastal Gardening, Seed Starting, Cooking and Using Legumes, Vermicomposting, Blueberries, Creative Recycling, Basic Gardening 101, and Dried Foods for Home Use and Emergency Preparedness. As well as enjoyable informational classes, the event also features information-packed displays, gardening and seed catalogs and local nursery displays available to participants all day.

The registrations fee is $25.00, which includes the keynote address, three lecture sessions, and coffee or tea. To register, contact the Coos County Extension Office at (541) 572-5263, stop by the OSU Extension office at 631 Alder St. in Myrtle Point, or go on-line at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/coos/ to download the registration forms. You may also register the morning of the event from 8:15 a.m. but class selection may be limited.
