Community Supports Local Nurse's Cancer Battle with Bake and Garage Sale
This is a daily event, running from November 22, 2013 through November 23, 2013. 93534 Sunnyvale Lane (off Millington), Coos Bay 541-888-7452
De Dee Peterson is known for more than just being a happy friendly woman. De Dee is the face on the Fight Like a Girl t-shirt you may have seen. She is a North Bend native and SWOCC Nursing 2011 Alum. De Dee spent most of her early career as a doula as well as working for Bay Clinic as a medical assistant in the OB department. In 2011 she obtained her nursing degree through Southwestern Oregon Community College and since then has been working at Bay Area Hospital in Labor and Delivery.
De Dee (also known as D2) was diagnosed with breast cancer the first week of October. She underwent surgery only a week later and is at home recovery before chemo treatment will begin. What’s ironic is she has been a huge breast cancer awareness advocate for the past couple of years. De Dee started her own organization, “Girls Fight Like Girls” that raises funds for local woman that may need additional financial help. With these funds, De Dee has been able to help breast cancer patients pay bills and cover costs related to treatment. Unfortunately she can’t help herself with these funds raised by her organization. That’s why “TEAM D2” has come along. This group consists of anyone that supports De Dee and her fight against breast cancer. There are several fundraisers going on to support De Dee and the list is expanding daily.
