Turkey chili with Black Beans
Servings: 6-8 people If you are watching your fat intake or you just want something other than red meat, here is a wonderful alternative. The black beans add fiber and the turkey is full of protein. Just think, you could live on this stuff. Enjoy! Ingredients: 2 lbs. ground turkey, or grind it yourself 1 onion (diced) 6 cloves of garlic 2 stalks of celery9Chopped) 1 can mild roasted green chilies (chopped) 1 can black beans or ½ lb. cooked ½ cup olive oil Spices: 1-2 Tbs. cumin 1/2 cup good chili powder 2 Tbs. Black Market Gourmet Pili Pili relish 2 Tbs. flour 8-16 ounces of water 1 tsp. black pepper 1-2 Tbs. chicken bouillon as salt *Optional: 1 can of stewed tomatoes (finely diced) Directions: Sauté the turkey in a large pot with olive oil. As it becomes done, add celery, garlic, onions, and green chilies. Now add the flour to act as a thickener, stir well in to the mixture. You can now add the spices and pour in the water last. Bring to a slow simmer and add the black beans. As it comes together (thickens) adjust your spice and salt to taste. Serve with some corn bread or polenta. Estimated cost: $6.00 |
