February Heart Gallery child

Austin Heart Gallery Child

By Shelley Kurtz

If you could bottle the energy in this month's Heart Gallery child, you could light up a city. But, for the right family, seven year old Austin will light up their life.

It was a little person who crawled out of the big truck. Austin seemed a little unsure about being on TV, but when he found out what we were doing, he forgot about that, and he headed inside at Putters to play a little miniature golf.

We selected our clubs, picked out some golf balls, and were ready to play.

Austin seemed to be in his element. He loves any game that involves a ball, and he's quite the athlete.

In his brief seven years, Austin has been in several different foster homes. Despite it all, he's shown he's resilient.

Jeanne Taylor, his case worker says, "He's bright and a quick learner but sometimes because of some moves and so far he got a little bit behind but his teachers are so pleased with him because he's caught up."

Austin didn't want to talk too much about school. He wanted to tell me about the video games he plays with his older foster brother. "I was on this side but they weren't they blew up they were going (mouth sounds) I was going (mouth sounds) and then he just started over the game."

Austin's case worker wants to find a traditional family for this plucky little boy who's truly committed to him, and can handle the occasional bumps in the road.

"I'm looking for a family that can take 6 months to a year before everything is perfect." says Taylor

Austin found the play area and really enjoyed having the place all to himself.

Thanks to putters' for allowing us to come in and play with Austin.
