All of life's adventures are what sisters Kendra and Tristen want to experience. The sisters are searching for their "Forever Family"... and are this month's "Heart Gallery Children".
We meet up with the girls at spring training. It's that time of year for members of the University of Oregon Women's Soccer Team. Coach Tara Erickson was happy to allow two anxious soccer sisters to join in.
"Go Kendra, good Kendra, take her out!" yells one of Kendra's teammates. 11 year old Kendra and 10 year old Tristen are sisters who share a love for sports and an enthusiasm to try new things!
"You guys ready?"
Along with assistant coaches, Mike and Nicole, the girls learned a new game which helps them work on their soccer skills.
The girls' case worker has watched the girls grow up and expects only the best for them. She says, "Tristen is fearless, she loves everything, she loves life, she just wants to jump into everything you probably saw her out there. Kendra, she's a little more reserved. She's kind of the protector of the two, and she goes in cautiously."
Casas says, she hopes to place the girls in a family, where they are the youngest and have older siblings who can be good mentors. The girls are just learning to again, trust adults. They've had some trying times, but they are moving on.
Being in the Moshofsky Center and working out with the Women's Soccor Team, really boosted the girls' confidence. Tristen says, "We did the juggling and I did it with my knees and it was really fun."
"So you really fell like you learned something here today?" "Yeah, I learned how to criss cross when you fake left and you kick it to the right with your right foot."
Kendra says, although she loves playing soccer, she also really enjoys drawing and dabbles in fashion design. "I take some of my dresses and hang them up in the window and I look at them and I draw and I look back up and keep drawing."
The soccer team showered Kendra and Tristen with gifts and praise. According Coach, Tara Erickson, they just fit in! "As they progressed through, it looked like by the end they were having a great time, calling for the ball and juggling...so I think they definitely have a future in the game."
And, they definitely have a bright future with a forever family that loves to play soccer.
