IVF Overseas
AKRON, Ohio (Ivanhoe Newswire) -- Couples desperate to have children are spending tens of thousands of dollars in the United States in fertility clinics. Now, women are looking for fertility treatments at a discount overseas that will help them get the family they dream of. Craig and Marcela met online, made a connection, took their wedding vows and started the journey of their lives to create the family they always wanted. “If you are a fertility challenged couple you never give up hope no matter what the cost, it’s just how long does it take to get there," Marcele told Ivanhoe.
But month after month, no baby. They looked into in vitro fertilization, but couldn’t afford the 12-thousand to 15-thousand dollar price tag. They thought their dream of having a baby together was dying until they took a trip home to Marcele's native country, the Czech Republic, where they could get the same IVF procure, regulated by the same guidelines used in the U.S., done for a fraction of the cost. The trip paid off for this couple. “We had our twin girls born on the 6th of September 2006,” Marcele said. Knowing other couples shared their battle the Fites created IVF Vacations -- an overseas medical tourism company that helps women get to the Czech Republic for fertility treatments, leading them through the process start to finish. “We said others should have the same opportunity we did,” said Marcele. The actual IVF treatment takes two weeks and hopeful parents to-be stay in Czech for 21 days. The success rate at the Czech clinic is 55-percent to 65-percent depending on whether or not the woman uses her own eggs or donor eggs. The average U.S. success rate is 25-percent. As with any foreign medical procedure -- there are risks. "The major risk of going overseas is that it's really not clear what the standard of care is going to be," David Adamson, M.D., President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, told Ivanhoe. Women going overseas may be paying for a procedure with lower standards. There is no international body regulating fertility clinics on issues such as donor recruitment practices and safety standards. That's why the Fites think it's crucial they are available to guide people through the foreign process. “We would like you to be as informed as possible once you get there you have no questions or surprises,” Marcele said. Now, the Fites not only see their own reward of IVF, they get to see many others! “They send us the picture and they call us and they are so very happy,” Marcele said.So far, the Fites have had about 150 clients sign up to take IVF vacations, about 100 of which have already been. They are proud to have helped 22 babies come into the world, with at least 35 more due. If you would like more information, please contact: Marcele Fite info@ivfvacation.com (419) 308-0778
