Boat Basin Road facelift

CHARLESTON, Ore. -- Traffic on Boat Basin Rd. is moving a lot slower these days because the street is getting a facelift.
As part of Charleston's master plan, the road will be safer for drivers, bikers and walkers.
Boat Basin will now have sidewalks and street lights, along with improved storm drains and landscaping.
Construction supervisor, Randy Cotton, said, "We had some utility conflicts. We're a little behind schedule and we expect to be completed around mid to late October."
The $1.3 million project is a partnership between the Port and the City of Coos Bay.
It has been in the works for almost ten years.

The Boat Basin Road project is a joint project with the Port and Coos County coming together to get an ODOT grant.  (Coos Bay city has nothing to do with it.)  It was  a project that had broad community support from agencies, organizations, and businesses in Charleston.
