CB shopping center delayed by poor economy
COOS BAY, Ore.-- Pland to build a waterfront shopping center in the Empire District of Coos Bay are being put on hold because of the struggling economy.

For the past four years, contractors and developers have wanted to turn the waterfront slab of land at The Hollering Place into a new commercial destination that included retail shops and even an inn.

Joyce Jansen, economic revitalization administrator for Coos Bay, says the plans to develop the site are being put on hold unil new investors and retail businesses can commit to the project again.

"For us, it's a fairly big development," Jansen said. "In the developers world, it's a small project. So it depends on how the economy's doing, and how tight funding is. So we'll just keep watching."

Jansen said project could get back on track quickly if a new developer can be found soon.
