Coquille historian, librarian dies in North Dakota
COQUILLE, Ore.-- The town of Coquille is mourning the loss of Hjorids "Jordi" Lindergren, 54, who many consider to be the town historian.
Lindergren, who worked at the Coquille Public Library for more than 18 years, died of a massive stroke earlier this month while visiting family in North Dakota.
According to Lindergren's friends, she was celebrating her father's 90th birthday when she was rushed to the hospital after suffering a massive stroke.
Family members made the annoucement of Lindergren's death late last week.
Since the annoucement of the Lindergren's death, a small memorial has been set up at the checkout counter at the Coquille Public Library where some have left cards with their final thoughts and memories.
Lindergren's colleagues say they are in shock at Jordi's sudden passing.
"She was larger than life," Anne Conner, Coquille Library Director said. "I think the happiest person I've ever known. She was very funny. She could tell stories that would leave you in stitches."
Conner said Lindergren's passion for learning the history of Coquille came because she was a life-long resident of the town.
Lindergren was cremated, and a memorial service was held Monday night in North Dakota.
Conner says there will be many ways she and the town will honor their lost friend.
"If I can find some fireworks, then we'll set off fireworks for her," Conner said. "If anyone deserved to have her story told on the news, it would be Jordi."
Conner says in addition to having a memorial service in Coquille some time in August, the Coquille Public Library will be permanently dedicating the bench outside the library in her honor.
"It's where she always was if she wasn't in here," Conner said.

This is in error. Jordi was with the library for over 28 years. I was a patron for over 21 of that, and she was a great lady. She could and would find books for her patrons that would become their favorites.
