Defazio talks about working with V.P. Candidate Paul Ryan
BANDON, Ore.-- Oregon Congressman Peter Defazio says Wisconsin Congressman and Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan is a nice guy personally but is wrong on solving the nation's budget issue.
Defazio spoke with KCBY after a townhall meeting in Bandon Tuesday afternoon where Defazio told a crowd that the U.S. must return to Clinton era tax rates if there is any chance of cutting the national debt in half over the next decade.
KCBY asked Defazio about Paul Ryan's budget named "The Path To Proposerity" in which Defazio replied that Ryan's budget would hurt the people he claims he is campaigning to help.
"He would make dramatic cuts on the domestic side of the budget," Defazio said. "He would not cut anything out of the Pentagon even though their books can't be audited and would dramatically reduce taxes, and he's very honest about it. He says 'I would create more debt and deficit for 30 more years'."
Defazio, like other Democrats, see Ryan as a hinderance to Presumptive Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney's argument that he is a better candidate to save Medicare than President Obama.
"He's very conservative, and he's very detailed," Defazio said. "And it will create an honest discussion."
In previous years, Ryan has suggested turning Medicare into a voucher program and privatizing social security.
"I think he's going to hurt Romney in the end," Defazio said. "I don't think his plan is something the American people are going to go for."

Paul Ryan is like a breath of fresh air in a smoke filled congressional back room. If his actions are as good as his words he may be a great addition as Vice President.
