Food bank gets new home after being forced out of old location

COOS BAY, Ore.-- The food bank best known for its Free Produce Thursdays has a new location for its warehouse.

The Pelican Harbor Food Bank has a new location after being forced out of its original location earlie this summer.

Joan Daniels, co-founder of the food bank, says the property the food bank's warehouse was on was sold, and the group was asked to leave so the sale could be finalized.

Daniels says finding a new location took some faith and patience.

"We prayed about it, and put the word out that we needed a new warehouse [that had to be free]," Daniels said. "We'd been using that one free all this time, and we got this one for free. There's lights. There's water. It's just wonderful."

Daniels says the organization's new warehouse will allow for them to collect more items both food and clothing.

Pelican Harbor will not release the location of its new warehouse because Daniels says the organization does not operate by people coming to their location. She says the organization prefers reaching out to the community by going to various locations around Coos County.

Pelican Harbor Food Bank is not associated with the Oregon Food Bank system so it is operated strictly on donations.
