Food bank says it is "dangerously low" on dry goods

NORTH BEND, Ore.-- The Pelican Harbor Food Bank says it is "dangerously low" on dry food goods, and it is to the point where it may run out.

The Pelican Harbor Food Bank is most commonly known for its Free Produce Thursday event in the parking lot of the Church of God of North Bend on Newmark. For the past eight years, the group has given out tons of fresh produce for free to anyone who drives up. The group must give the produce away because it will spoil sitting in a warehouse waiting for someone to request it.

A group spokeswoman told KCBY Thursday afternoon at their free produce event that the need for dry goods is very high, and they are approaching the point of running out.

The spokeswoman said that the dry goods are mainly given to seniors who have signed up for and rely on the program for weekly needs.
