COOS BAY, Ore.-- The Coos Bay City Council is moving forward with plans to allow food cart vendors to sell on public property.

Tuesday night the Coos Bay City Council voted to move forward with plans to allow food carts to operate in designated areas in downtown that is also public property.

The plan is to start off with a few carts and then evaluate the problems and benefits as time goes on.

City Councilor Jon Hanson says the city is looking at other communities for ideas on how to regulate the food carts.

"I think we can follow the road map of communities similar to our own that have vending carts of different types, see what they've done and ask their governing bodies point blank what works well," Hanson said.

The Coos Bay City Planner tell KCBY they expect to limit how close a vendor can sell a particular product next to an established business selling the same fare.
