New ambulance lost in fire

COOS BAY, Ore.-- Bay Cities Ambulance's new ambulance was destroyed in Monday afternoon's fire at Sweeney's Auto Body and Repair Shop.
General Manger Tim Novotny says the $100,000 ambulance was being prepared to enter service later this year and replace an older one currently in service.
Novotny says the ambulance was so new that the company had to yet purchased insurance for the vehicle, but they are looking to see if the body shop's insurance will cover the loss.
Novotny says Bay Cities knew it lost an ambulance the minute the call 911 dispatcher alerted first responders to the fire.
"When I heard the location of the call, and I believe it came in as active explosions, I knew right then we had lost an ambulance because I knew it was there," Novotny said.
Novotny says Bay Cities is a frequent customer of Sweeney's because it likes to do business locally to support bay area jobs.
