Sheriff's Dept. searching for felon with gun
BARVIEW, Ore.-- The Coos County Sheriff's Department says it is actively searching for a man who they say is a felon with a gun and could be connected to other crimes around the bay area.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, sheriff's deputies, Oregon State Police Troopers and the Coquille Tribal Police arrived at a home on Windy Lane in the Barview district of Coos Bay after there were reports of what some said sounded like a gun shot.

Joseph Edwin Gish IV, 25, who is believed to be involved in the incident fled the scene before law enforcement could arrive, Coos County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Downing said.

While investigating the scene, deputies found probable cause leading officers to believe Gish was a convicted felon in possession of firearms, Downing said.

Downing stated, a search warrant was executed later that night, and during the search of the residence, officers located and seized two rifles, one of which was reported stolen, methamphetamine paraphernalia, and additional stolen property from at least two bay area burglary and theft cases.

The Coos County Sheriff's currently has probable cause for Gish's arrest for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Theft 1, but Downing stated that attempts to located Gish on Monday night were unsuccessful.

Downing stated additional controlled substance charges may be pending, and the investigation into the related theft and burglary is still ongoing.
