Apartment fire displaces tenants
By Erica Rush, KCBY NewsMYRTLE POINT, Ore. -An apartment fire in Myrtle Point over the weekend leaves its tenants homeless until an electrician can inspect the wiring and make repairs. The Myrtle Point Fire Department was dispatched to this small apartment complex on Spruce St., just before 8:30 pm on Saturday. Firefighters found a fire burning underneath the two story apartment and smoke filling the building, but were able to extinguish the flames within 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the Owner of the building, Douglas Hall, estimates the damage to be about $1,500. He says he's working to quickly repair the building until occupants can return in the meantime, a press release claims all the tenets are either staying with friends or in another apartment building owned by Hall. Firefighters report that there were no working smoke alarms in the apartments and want to remind folks that you check and make sure your smoke alarms are in working order, or contact your local fire department for assistance.
