South Coast meets a new Frontier with high expectations
By Tim Novotny KCBY NewsCOOS BAY, ORE - On July 1, 2010, Frontier Communications took ownership of the Verizon properties in Oregon. On Tuesday, September 7th, the C.E.O. of Frontier paid a visit to the Coos Bay. Maggie Wilderotter heads-up the company that is currently the largest provider of communications services to rural America, with more than 4-million customers in 27 states. Their business management plan is called 'Local Engagement,' which includes hiring a local General Manager, something the South Coast has not seen in over a decade. That Manager, and the employees, are expected to become very involved in the community in order to become better acquainted and have a better understanding of the area. Coos Bay Mayor Jeff McKeown was joined by North Bend Mayor Rick Wetherell, State Representatives Arnie Roblan and Wayne Krieger, County Commissioner Bob Main, and other dignitaries, in welcoming Frontier's leadership team. McKeown says their partnership could be vital in helping job growth in the Bay Area, because communications infrastructure is so important. Wilderotter agrees, and says Frontier can help businesses and residential customers alike. She believes a General Manager could be named within a month. Meanwhile, plans continue for them to extend broadband services to almost 30,000 new residences in the next few months, in areas around Coos Bay. Most Popular
