A magnitude six point four earthquake shakes the ocean floor off the central Oregon. The epicenter was about one-hundred fifty miles west of Florence. It was ten miles below the surface of the Pacific.

No tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake, which hit at 5:37 p.m. Wednesday.

Following are the distances from nearby cities:

* 151 miles from Barview
* 151 miles from Bandon
* 153 miles from Winchester Bay
* 205 miles from Eugene
* 252 miles from Portland

Although it was larger in magnitude than normal, geologists say earthquakes in this region are common and there is no cause for alarm.

James Roddey from the Oregon Department of Geology says "It doesn't mean the big one is coming it doesn't mean that stress has been relieved from the big on or that other earthquakes are going to happen because of it."

According to local police in several coastal communities, no residents called in to report feeling any movement.

The Coast Guard also didn't report any problems
