COOS BAY - Cracking down on impaired drivers on the roads, the Oregon State Police Coos Bay Command office is recognized for their hard work.

In early March, the Coos Bay office was named "2007 DUII Agency of the Year" at the annual DUII Multi-Disciplinary Impaired Driving Training Conference in Bend.

This isn't the first time the Coos Bay office has received the award, they also got it back in 2002, and Lieutenant Steve Smartt says their commitment to keeping the roads safe is the main reason they receive this recognition.

"We have five officers working out of this office. We are a smaller office but we do take a pretty hard stance against impaired drivers."

Smartt says between January and December of last year, his officers made 210 DUII arrests, and were also near the top of arrests statewide during the holiday season.

"We're proud of ourselves, we set goals every year and try to obtain them. It's a personal satisfaction."

this wasn't the only award the office received, Trooper Freddie Dunlap received an individual award for his drug enforcement efforts.
