Port Orford community brings newspaper back

By Britt Carlson

PORT ORFORD- It takes a village, that saying rings true for one south coast community that lost their local newspaper for almost three weeks, until they banded together to bring back the print.

Port Orford didn't know what they had until it was gone.

Since the late 1800's the Port Orford newspaper published an edition every week until February 28th when their publisher Beacon Communications stopped the presses.

Every sector of the community felt empty during those few weeks, missing their prime outlet for local advertising and publicity.

The City of Port Orford and the school district considered publishing public records and local events in the Gold Beach paper, just to get the right information out.

Thanks to the support of the entire community, Matt Hall, the former owner of the paper until 2006, was able to start up the paper again on March 19th.

The weekly paper comes out every Wednesday and all the contributors are volunteers.
