Bay Area celebrates Mother Earth
By Azenith SmithNORTH BEND - Paying homage to Mother Earth, the Bay Area community gathers to prove that Earth Day doesn't just have to be celebrated on the designated day in April. After having to postpone their original celebration, due to bad weather, the day held up to be a nice one for environmental groups and friends to hold their festivities in honor of Planet Earth on Saturday at Ferry Road Park. Calling it "Love Your Mother Earth Day," among the day's happenings included dancing, drumming, live music, and educational booths from various groups, including the Bay Area Recycling Team, Sol Coast, Coos Watershed Association, and Cape Arago Audobon Society. Co-organizer Char Luther says the event gives the community another opportunity to think of ways on how they can be more environmentally-conscious throughout the year. Next up for the group will be helping plan the Octoberfish event in Charleston, slated for later this year. That event will help benefit the town's local food bank. Most Popular |
