Shaping up to be big turnout in Coos County Primary
By Tim Novotny
COQUILLE - It's possible that the hotly contested Democratic Presidential Primary is driving more people to vote in Coos County, but whatever the reason numbers are up this year.
Coos County Clerk Terri Turi held their required public certification and demonstration of ballot tabulation on Tuesday in the Elections office at the Coos County Courthouse. It also served as a shakedown test of the equipment that will be used to tally the votes on May 20th. She says they could be in for a long night, as they expect a wave of votes to come in over the next week. She says they are "Gearing up," and ready for the challenge. As of Tuesday, voter turnout in Coos County was at just over 25-percent. That's about three percentage points higher than it was at the same stage of the 2004 Primary. |
