Unofficial results show Main wins, CB fire bond passes

COQUILLE - While the primary election for the state of Oregon highlighted a number of prominent national, and statewide, races, the issues and races closer to home were few and far between.

For Coos County, there were really only two major decisions to be made by voters, Coos County Commissioner and a Coos Bay Fire Station Bond.

As of Wednesday morning, in the race for Coos County Commissioner, it was very much a race about change, with unofficial totals declaring Coos County Assessor Bob Main with the win over incumbent John Griffith. The unofficial totals show Main won 53 to 46 percent.

The Coos Bay Fire Department, meanwhile had the tough task of going to the voters for money during a tough economic time.

But, they twice held an open house to show, quite obviously, how badly they needed a new fire station and it appears to have helped.

Getting well over the 50 percent voter turnout they required, those voters are also giving them the nod at this time. Unofficial totals show 2,647 for, 2,057 against.
