Coos Bay - A local chapter of a motorcycle ministry continues their mission of helping out the youth, by raising funds for a good cause.

Last month, the Coos County Bikers for Christ held their first-ever street ride around town and bike blessing event, all to help raise money for the St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

After a successful event, which included a turnout of more than 300 people and several community donations, they were able to present a check worth $3,783 to the hospital on Friday.

Lee Taft of Bikers for Christ says, they decided to give the money to them, after he recently visited the hospital and saw firsthand how it really does help.

"I got to meet the children who have had cancer and have been healed from it because of the research that they do," says Taft. "I've had the opportunity to talk with the CEO and found at every single seat that's raised for the hospital goes directly to the hospital and it costs the parents nothing."

Taft adds, the poker run was the first big fundraising event that they've had, and they plan to do it again next year, hopefully, raising even more money for this cause.
