VA representatives meet with local vets to discuss clinic move

NORTH BEND - Early next year, the VA Clinic in Bandon will be relocated to North Bend, and in anticipation of that move, representatives from the VA Healthcare System in Roseburg made a trip to the South Coast, to talk to veterans first hand about their plans.
Two meetings were held on Wednesday, one at the existing clinic in Bandon and one later in the day at the Pony Village Mall in North Bend. At both meetings, VA Roseburg Healthcare System Director Susan Yeager and staff outlined their plans. "About 56 percent of our vets live in Coos Bay and North Bend. So now that our lease is expiring in Bandon, we're looking at the opportunity where the most vets live. We also have an opportunity to expand our square footage from 6,500 to 10,000 square feet, so we'll be able to do more for the vets," says Yeager. While most vets living in Coos Bay and North Bend are happy about the move, some in Bandon are concerned with transportation. Yeager says they are working on plans with the DAV Transportation Network, which currently transports vets to the Roseburg Hospital, to ensure the vets can get up to North Bend. Yeager adds the move is necessary to help expand the care provided. "We're going to be more efficient because we have more square footage. We will have more exam rooms which will allow us to bring in more specialists from Roseburg and other areas." The building will be located in the west parking lot next to Pony Village Mall. They plan on breaking ground in July and having the new building up and running by late January or early February of 2009. |
