CB library opens up bookstore
By Azenith Smith
COOS BAY - Bookworms will have another place in town to purchase books at a bargain, as the Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library open up their much-anticipated book store.
Thursday marked the grand opening day for the Friends' book store, where we found it already packed with visitors. The $129,000 project was funded by a number of means, including a grant from the City of Coos Bay Downtown Urban Renewal Agency as well as the Friend's book sales. "So many people can't afford to buy books all the time in book stores, so they can supplement that by coming and finding bargains here at the book sales and now, they'll be able to come to the book store as well," says Library Director Carol Ventgen. "It's hugely important to the library because the Friends' group uses the money to provide programming for kids and adults." This opening marked the end of the library's recent renovation project, which included expanding the Friends' library area, improving the circulation desk and reconfiguring the library's popular materials space. The book store will initially be open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from Noon to 6 p.m. with plans to increase open hours in the near future. The Friends will still continue to have their book sales throughout the year with the next one scheduled for this weekend. |
