Coquille joins "National Night Out" festivities
By Azenith Smith
COQUILLE - For the first time in several years, the Coquille Police Department brings back a family fun affair to encourage partnerships within the community.
You don't often see police officers playing a friendly game of football with area kids, but it was just one of the many activities that happened Tuesday night, as part of "National Night Out." It's a night out of the year when communities gather to promote crime prevention and public safety. Organizer James Bryant of Coquille P.D. says, there was no one reason to bring it back but, it's an important event to have. He adds, it was well attended by kids of all ages, who enjoyed the bike rodeo, tazer demonstration and dunk tank, among many other activities. Along with Coquille P.D., representatives from the Department of Human Services, Coquille Fire and Myrtle Point Police participated. In the future, Bryant says, they hope to build on the program by creating local watch groups and having more police departments in South County join in the effort. |
