Halibut fishing extends to every weekend

Ocean and weather conditions have made sport fishing this season a little more difficult than usual, but according to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, sufficient quota remains which means halibut fishing will be open every weekend instead of every other weekend like earlier in the season.

This year charter boats have had to deal with numerous factors. Fisherman Wayne Butler says there has been a lot more wind this summer than usual.

He adds, the loss of the Chinook season has also had an affect.

There are about 70,000 pounds of halibut quota that remain for the central coast. Butler says halibut fishing has been fantastic as far as the quality of fish goes, with an excellent grade of halibut.

All-depth fishery will remain open until mid-October or until quota is attained.
