New library service provides access to downloadable books, videos
By Kristina Nelson
NORTH BEND - Moving into the digital age, the Coos County Library System implements a new resource, making it easier for patrons to access the books they want without even leaving home.
"Library to Go" is the newest service to hit all libraries across the county. Put in place earlier this month, the system allows anyone with a library card to access and download a large collection of audio and video books online from their personal computers or mp3 players. "This has been planned for well over a year now. The program actually started in other libraries around Oregon, particularly the big urban libraries. This service is offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, whether the library is open or not, from any geographical location in the county," says North Bend Library Director Gary Sharp. All you have to do is log onto www.cooslibraries.org and on the main page you'll see an option for "Libraries to Go" Sharp suggests clicking on the frequently asked questions page once on the site, to find out how to work the service, although he says it is fairly easy to understand. The service is free of charge and audio-books and videos can be checked out for 10 days at a time. Sharp says currently the system is only Windows compatible, meaning no Apple products work with the system but he's thinking that will soon change. If you have a library card from any library within Coos County, log onto www.cooslibraries.org to get started. |
