Class teaches how to save on electric bills
By Kristina NelsonCOOS BAY, Ore. - With fall upon us, many people will be turning up their thermostats in their homes which will also raise electric bills, but a free workshop run through a local non-profit teaches residents how to use appliances more efficiently and cut costs. Last Thursday, a group of residents attended the free workshop on Southwestern's campus. Run through Oregon Coast Community Action, the workshop is an extension of a larger program they offer to low-income families throughout the year. This workshop however, was open to people of all income levels and offered some helpful tips on how to keep electric bills low this winter. ORCCA Energy Education and Development Coordinator John Misterly says lowering your thermostat and the temperature of your hot water heater are just some easy things to do around the home. He says by doing little things like these, you can save up to $200 a year on bills. Misterly says anyone can call ORCCA's Energy Department at 888-7098 and request more information on helpful tips. |
