Financial crisis affects finding foster homes for local kids

NORTH BEND, Ore. - Finding adequate foster parents is always a task for the Child Welfare Department but with the failing economy and rising costs it's getting even more difficult.

The Oregon Department of Human Services in Coos County has about 102 certified foster homes and Frannie McMahon with the department says in reality they need double that amount.

She says people are always inquiring about becoming foster parents but that's not where the problem lies.

With the state's deficit there could be budget cuts coming very soon.

But McMahon is staying positive and hope things will only get better.

Meanwhile they are always looking for qualified foster families.
