NORTH BEND, Ore. - After a little love and t.l.c., a once rundown park in North Bend has come to life, thanks to a group of dedicated citizens who wanted to give back.

Practically brand new playground equipment, a new picnic overhang, tables and benches have taken the place where a rusty playground once stood at Oak Street Park.

This thanks to a group of community members from all walks of life, who took part in a program run through the Ford Leadership Group that teaches the basics of giving back.

"I think the idea was to teach philanthropy and community partnerships. Hopefully this encourages people to get involved with community projects," says Project Coordinator Barbara Bauder.

Since mid-spring the group worked on the project.

They also received help from the North Bend Fire Department, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, the Kiwanis Club and the North Bend High School Key Club.

Bauder says it was truly a community effort to see the park come to life and neighbors couldn't be happier.

They still have a little work that needs to be done and then the group plans on having a community celebration to dedicate the park.
