COOS BAY, Ore. - Volunteering their time to give back to hungry families in the community, a local girl scout troop spends their time on Saturday packing up donated veggies for a local non-profit.

With local demand on the rise for emergency food, a group of girl scouts did what they could to help fix the problem.

For about an hour and a half, the girls sorted, weighed and packed donated vegetables including beets and rhubarb, for the South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action.

The veggies, were provided to the South Coast Food Share and the Oregon Food Bank Network by a farm in the Willamette Valley.

The packed up food will go out to local hungry families this week as part of their emergency food boxes which also include things like protein and grains.
