Barges moved from North Spit to Empire to be unloaded
By Kristina NelsonCOOS BAY, Ore. - The last large tools used for the New Carissa removal floated away from the coast this weekend and are now making a temporary home in Empire. Fair weather on Sunday allowed the crews at Titan Maritime to pack up the Karlissa "A" and Karlissa "B" barges and officially say goodbye to the North Spit. They got to work early in the morning, jacking down the barges, which took a few hours. Curious onlookers watched with their binoculars throughout the day. They are now in at the Sause Bros. dock in Empire and Phil Reed with Titan says within the next few days they'll be moved to Sause Bros. Southern Oregon Marine Shipyard in Coos Bay. All the scrap from the wreck is being picked up by Pacific Recycling of Eugene and the barges will be held at the shipyard until they're called out to the next job. |
