South Coast celebrates direct flight to Portland
By Erica RushPartnerships continue to soar at the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport, as SkyWest United Express takes over direct flights from the North and South. Bringing in a full plane from Portland, SkyWest was welcomed with an inaugural flight ceremony Wednesday afternoon. While the traditional ribbon cutting did not go as smooth as they would like, SkyWest says they're excited about their opportunity to grow with the airport. "To have both the Southbound and Northbound and bring the United Express brand here, and to connect North Bend to United's world wide hubs both in San Fransisco and Portland is just a great opportunity for SkyWest and we're pleased to provide the service," said SkyWest spokesperson, Marissa Snow. SkyWest officially took over from former direct Portland carrier, Horizon Air, this past weekend. Horizon announced their withdrawal from the airport in early July, citing economic problems. State Representative, Arnie Roblan said, "The part that was always concerning to us is that it seemed like almost all the flights coming down and going back with Horizon were full. We couldn't understand what the problem was, but for whatever their businesses reasons are, they made the decision and we hope to have this partnership with SkyWest continue in the future." As of now, SkyWest will provide two, daily, direct flights to Portland. for more information on flights and times, you can log on to their website, www.united.com. Most Popular
