COOS COUNTY, Ore. - Calling all Ducks and Beavers fans, the American Red Cross needs folks to become blood donors, and what better way to start than the annual "Civil War Blood Drive."

The drive, now in it's seventh year, kicked off Thursday and whether you bleed green or orange, you can come support a team while helping out a good cause.

Red Cross Territory Representative Melissa Smith says the drive has grown in popularity every year, as fans get into the competitive spirit.

"We just try and make it fun for people to donate. You can come in and vote for either the Ducks or the Beavers and at the end of the campaign, we tally up the ballots to see who won. And you can enter to win two tickets to the Civil War Game."

Smith says she sees people wait until the event starts to donate their blood just so they can vote for their team.

Last year, fans of both schools collectively donated over 7,200 units of blood and platelets to help Oregon patients.

Smith also says this time of year is crucial for blood donations, as the holiday's also put and extra strain on blood supply.

To set up an appointment to donate blood you can call 1-800-give-life or log onto www.civilwarblooddrive.com.

The drive ends November 22nd.
