COOS BAY, Ore. - Four months after breaking ground in downtown Coos Bay, the new skateboard park is beginning to take shape - much to the delight of skaters around the Bay Area.

Work crews say although the rain has hampered their construction efforts slightly, they are still on track to open next spring.

They have much of the first part of construction complete and are moving on to build a retaining wall around the raised portion with some additional skating space.

Public Works Operations Administrator Steve Doty says the park's main feature is the two huge bowls that were initially constructed back in July and are now almost complete.

The park, which will eventually cover 3,000 square feet, is in the first phase of construction.

Fundraising efforts are still under way for the second phase.

The park is scheduled to open next spring.
