COOS BAY, Ore. - Tough economic times are being felt more than ever here locally, as a record number of people sign up for Christmas food baskets to make it through the holiday.

Over the course of two days, local service group Knights of Columbus, saw upwards of 700 people come through their doors looking to sign up for the baskets.

The Knights have been providing the service to folks in need since 1982.

Knights member Jim Delong says the economy has not only affected more people signing up, but what they can distribute.

They are seeing more people come in but the funds donated to their cause are not matching the demand.

Even though more people are wanting to sign up, the Knights can't fill the need, estimating they will only donate around 700 baskets this year as compared to over 900 last year.

To help donate either food or money to the Knights, write a check to South Coast Food Share and in the memo portion put Knights of Columbus.

You can drop it off at the Newmark Center on the Southwestern campus.
