COOS BAY, ORE - Commercial crab fishermen are beginning to prepare their crab pots as the season is just over a week away, set to officially open on Dec. 1.

Starting Nov. 28, the fishermen can begin putting their crab pots in place.

Nick Furman, with the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission, says they began pre-season testing with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in October, but they do not do "abundancy" tests, so they do not know how many crab are out there.

Last year, the boat value of crab was set at $2.80/pound. At this point, the crab price has not been set for this season, but state-supervised negotiations are under way.
