COQUILLE, Ore. - Kids from around Coos County laced up their sneakers and tried to perfect their free throws this weekend at the annual Coquille Elks Hoop Shoot.

Close to 60 kids ranging in age from eight to 13 hit the hardwood at Coquille Valley Middle School on Saturday.

The kids, who came from Powers, Bandon, Myrtle Point and Coquille, were selected from their respective schools to compete in the local finals.

Kids were placed into three different age divisions and were asked to shoot ten baskets in a row for Elks judges.

Winners in each division for boys and girls will head to the District Finals in Roseburg at the end of the month to compete against other kids from Southern Oregon.

If they win there, they will move on to the Northwest Division and then National Competition.

More than three million kids around the country participate in the Hoop Shoot Contest every year.
