REEDSPORT, Ore. - Oregon has come a long way in it's 150 years as a state, and every township and city has written it's own chapter in the state's history books.

To highlight the rich history of the local area, the Umpqua Discovery Center is hosting a series of their own to celebrate the milestone.

Throughout the year, the Discovery Center is presenting a series of programs investigating the history of the Lower Umpqua area.

Cities including Gardiner, Reedsport, Elkton and Scottsburg will be highlighted as well as landmarks, famous settlers and historic shipwrecks.

Program Director Jim Akre says the Discovery Center has been collecting old archives, books, photos and oral histories from residents to make up each presentation.

The next program in the series is Thursday, February 19th at 6:30 pm.

The cost is $2.50 for adults and $1 for children.
