COOS BAY, ORE - Oregon Coast Community Action say more people than ever before are seeking energy assistance, leaving hundreds of families on a waiting list.

Compared to this time last year, about 55-percent more Oregon families are facing the disconnection of their utilities or have already had them disconnected.

Director of Energy Services at ORCCA, Phil Handsaker, says even though they did get extra funding it's not enough for the 23-hundred people on the waiting lists in Coos and Curry Counties.

He says they typically make one payment a month, per family, and are currently serving about 235 families a week.

Although there is a waiting list for Energy Assistance, ORCCA does offer free energy education classes and say you can find out more about those by calling 541-888-1574.
