COQUILLE, Ore. - The woman accused of neglecting ten horses at her home in North Bend, is arraigned in a Coos County courtroom Wednesday morning on charges of animal abuse in the first degree and second degree animal neglect.

64 year-old North Bend resident Bobbye Cikanek was arraigned on 10 counts each.

The charges stem from a two month long investigation from March 18th to May 13th, where Sheriff's Deputies looked into the living conditions of 10 horses being kept at Cikanek's North Bend residence on Waymire Lane.

Found on a one acre pasture with 12 inches of mud and depleted of food sources, they were rescued and placed into protective custody.

If convicted, she faces up to one year in county jail and a $6,250 fine for each count of animal abuse, and up to six months in jail and a $2,500 fine for each count of animal neglect.

Cikanek was appointed a lawyer from the Public Defenders Office, and ordered not to possess any more horses during court proceedings.

She will be back in court on July 27th at 8:30 a.m. for her change of plea hearing.
