COOS BAY, Ore. -Hosting their first ever half-marathon, the South Coast Running Club turns out big numbers for their 15 Annual Jenny's Catching Slough Classic.

Over 100 participants rose bright and early on Saturday, to compete in the benefit classic, which also featured a 12K run, a 5K run/walk and a 1 mile kids run.

Held in honor of Jennifer Turman, memorial scholarships are awarded each year to two cross county or long distance runners in Coos County.

Turman was a Marshfield graduate and former member of the South Coast Running Club.

According to fellow running partner, Pete Dawson, Turman was killed in a automobile accident in 1995. "In 1996, we started this memorial scholarship to her and we dedicated the funds from this run to that scholarship."

This year's recipients of the $500 scholarships include McKenzie Scott of Marshfield High School and Brandon Lemerande of Bandon High School.

So far the South Coast Running Club has awarded $10,000 in scholarships.
