NORTH BEND, Ore. - Oregon's unemployment rate takes another hit, but that doesn't mean folks aren't looking for work.

In fact, here in Coos County, we've actually seen an increase in the number of employees hired last month.

This week, the Oregon Employment Department announced that between April and May, Coos County's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went up from 13.9 percent to 15.2 percent.

And according Rob Abbott, the Work Force Analyst for Coos, Curry and Douglas counties, the South Coast has about 750 less jobs available than what was offered during May of last year.

But Abbott says folks are still determined to find work.

"Even though we did see an increase in the unemployment rate, we also saw an increase in the number of people who did get jobs. Approximately 180 jobs did come into existence over that month," says Abbott.

Work-Source Oregon in North Bend tells us they've seen an influx in the number of visitors over the year, taking advantage of their work-aid.

Currently they have around 130 job listings available.

"We do have the staff to help you with everything from job matching, Resume building and job search and also many services for our veterans who are right now serving our country."
