MYRTLE POINT, ORE - The 2009 Coos County Fair and Rodeo is off and running, and organizers are hoping that a down economy will actually mean good things for the local Fair.

James Wittmaack is from Grants Pass and plans on hitting every County Fair in Oregon this summer. While he has seen a slightly smaller attendance at Fairs this year he says business is still pretty good. "People I've noticed may not go on vacation to Hawaii or Mexico but they will support the Fair."

People do not seem to be down on the shopping at the Fair either, as Vendor Rich Dunn says their catering to youngsters has kept his shop going strong, "they seem to have the money where no one else does."

Lyn Pinney from Klamath Falls says low prices are the secret to her success at the Fair.

While gas prices have increased the overhead for these vendors, it hasn't increased enough to force them to bypass the Fairs.

As for the consumer, Fair Manager Cindy Bedingfield says it really is a good alternative for those who may not be able to afford a vacation.
