Verger, Roblan talk legislative news in Reedsport
By Kristina Nelson, KCBY NewsREEDPORT, Ore. - Invited to talk about the past legislative session, and what lies ahead, Senator Joanne Verger, and Representative Arnie Roblan talk state business over lunch in Reedsport. Verger and Roblan were guest speakers at the Rotary Club of Reedsport's luncheon. Fielding questions on everything from education to health care, one of the recurring themes seemed to be the state of the economy, and local jobs. Both Roblan and Verger say stimulus money has had a positive impact on the direction of the local workforce. "Our community college and other places getting some work done has made it possible for local people to continue to work. I know that here in Reedsport, if you're coming in you see a lot of construction just going on, and that means local people working and we want to continue to have those kinds of jobs as we hopefully start seeing the national economy improve, it will start picking up here," said Roblan. Verger was also instrumental in working on Oregon's new transportation package, which she hopes will help fund repairs on the Coos Bay Rail Line. She also touched on a new change that will be taking place when the next legislative session begins. "All of the committees are going to meet within two or three days, everybody's gonna come back to Salem at the same time." Roblan say the next legislative session should start in February.
