New eatery helps revamp downtown Coos Bay

By Azenith Smith

Coos Bay - A new eatery with a Mediterranean feel is making its way to downtown Coos Bay, and the owner promises it'll live up to its name and be quite a "beautiful place" for locals.

Ric Morrisonn will soon open the doors to Ric's Posta Bella on Anderson Avenue, which will serve exotic pastries, premium coffees as well as sandwiches, soups and salads from local vendors.

He's hoping it'll become a gathering spot for folks to come and hang out.

"We are very consciously trying to set ourselves apart, including the decor," explains Morrisonn. "We want this place to be inviting and we're going for the jaw drop factor so when people come in, we want them to go Holy Mackerel Coos Bay."

Morrisonn is one of three recipients of a $25,000 grant facade grant from the Urban Renewal Agency. The money will help him renovate the storefront.

Morrisonn says, "The downtown needs some face lifting and for a small community to put money towards encouraging that and helping people like me is great."

He feels he wouldn't take a chance on the $80,000 investment if he didn't believe that downtown Coos Bay will become a destination place in the coming years.

The shop will have a grand opening within the next two months, and it'll feature live local music on Fridays and Saturdays as well as movie nights once a month, free to the public.
