MYRTLE POINT, Ore. -As Halloween nears, you can bet you're going to see a lot more pumpkins appearing on the streets. But for the folks of Myrtle Point, turning a pumpkin into a Jack-O-Lantern, now that's an art form.

At Cherry Creek Floral, kids are coming in after school to enter their pumpkin in the 10 Annual Community Carving Contest. Last year, more than 50 people competed, vying for one of the many cash prizes. And with categories in various age groups or themes, the possibilities are endless.

KCBY caught up with five-time champion, Leon Brown on Thursday, to ask him just what is the trick to winning this competition.

"Having something unusual, something different. But then again, they have different judges every year, so it's just whatever that judge might like," said Brown. "So there's no real key to it, it's just having fun. that's what it's all about."

All entries are due Friday, October 30, by 5 pm. But you can catch them all on display outside of Cherry Creek Floral in Myrtle Point this Halloween Saturday, where you're also invited to vote for the peoples choice award pumpkin!
