NORTH BEND, Ore. -On this Hallows Eve, haunted houses around the community take on a new level of fear factor. And for the local organizations that sponsor these events, each scream is not only a job well done, it's a drop in the bucket for their cause.

Here in Coos County, both Coquille and North Bend Police Departments are participating, as well as the Little Theatre on the Bay in North Bend.

Each offers their own blood curdling twists, but for all, it's just about providing safe, fun event.

According to Coquille Police Chief, Mark Dannels, "It keeps them from doing things they shouldn't do and it's also a fun, thrilling, safe but scary event."

Milo Arnesen with the North Bend Officers Association adds, "I think it lets them see the fun side of us and that we're not all serious. We do have a serious job but we're also for the community and we're here to help."

And help they do, over the years, the North Bend Officers Association raises about $6,000 annually, much of which went to local fund raising projects. And according to Officer Jon Bohanan, "I know we help out the Fire Department with providing Thanksgiving Dinners and providing bicycle helmets and stuff like that."

Coquille is splitting this years second Annual haunted house funds between the, "Shop with Hero's" program and the Coquille High School's Senior Class. While LTOB says this haunted theatre helps other shows go on throughout the year.

"It takes a lot to flip on the electricity in this building and it just goes into our general fun of keeping the theatre rolling to the next show," said Theresa Erskine

So whether you're in it for the fright or the fund raising, this Halloween weekend is the perfect time to check out one of your favorite haunts.
